"Travelling Guest" Cancellation Policy

*****There is a Different Cancellation Policy for "travelling Guest teachers where there are travel and flights booked well in advance of the class date. Cancellation notice must be made 30 days in advance of the class start date with a non refundable $50 fee. After the 30 day cancellation has expired there will be no refund given. We will endeavour to find a replacement for your spot in the class, however, we must remain firm in our registration and cancellation policies. Because these classes are booked so far in advance, it is imperative that schedules be checked by each student before the 30 day cancellation date.

Sewing is fun when you get the results you want. Our classes are small and feature personalized instruction. You will be encouraged to do your best while enjoying successful experiences. Because each student cuts and sews at a different rate, and most projects take more than class time, please expect some work will need to be done at home between classes. Before signing up for classes, please check your schedule and read our class policies carefully. To be fair to our teachers and other students we must remain firm in our registration and cancellation policies.

CLASS POLICIES

  • Full Payment of class fees due at time of registration. This guarantees a place in the class.
    Phone registration is available with Visa or MasterCard. Cancellations must be made at least 7 days prior to class start. A store credit will be issued provided your cancellation does not reduce class participation below minimum number required. Minimum number of students is four, maximums vary by class. When applicable the teacher will be glad to leave class notes. Sawyers reserves the right to cancel 48 hours prior to any class if participation level is below minimum. Sawyers will issue a full refund for any class we cancel.
  • Please pick up a supply list at time of registration. Purchase supplies prior to arriving for class.
  • Those registered for a class receive a 15% discount on class supplies.
  • Please mark all tools and supplies. Sawyers is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Possible make up classes may be arranged with the teacher for a cost of $15.00per hr. + HST ($16.80).
  • Please refrain from wearing perfumes in consideration of fellow classmates with allergies.

LEVEL 1 SEWING – INTRODUCTION TO SEWING BASICS Jo-Ann Reimer or Fern MacDonald

No experience required. The perfect project for this class is a drawstring/pyjama style pant. This project has proven to be a great starter project to learn the basics and achieve success in project completion. Otherwise you may choose any garment requiring 4 pattern pieces or less. Learn basic sewing skills and machine operation, correct cutting, marking, pressing, and seam finishing, as well as simple pattern adjustments and fitting techniques. Learn to understand commercial pattern envelope information, ease, grain of fabric, nap, notches, etc. Determine your correct pattern size. It's not the same as ready-to-wear sizing. Jo-Ann /Fern will show you how much fun sewing can be using the newest sewing aids and equipment. Our bright classroom is fully equipped with machines, irons, and ironing boards. Come to the first class in clothing suitable for taking measurements and bring pen and paper.

LEVEL 2 SEWING – BEYOND THE BASICS FOR ADULTS Jo-Ann Reimer or Fern MacDonald

This class is designed for those students who have taken Level 1 Sewing or have completed a garment from a commercial pattern recently and have a clear understanding of all topics covered in Level 1 (see class description). Students are encouraged to choose a project that will slightly challenge their previous sewing skills; for example darts, zipper, facings, collar, cuffs, buttons and buttonholes, set-in sleeve etc. For first class bring pre-washed fabric, pattern, all basic sewing supplies, shears, pins, measuring tape, fabric marker and thread. Since you already know your correct pattern size, these measurements will be needed for minor pattern adjustments.

EMBROIDERY GIFT OF THE MONTH Pat Dykes, Martha Pullen Licensed Teacher

Based on Martha Pullen Gift of the Month. Every month we will meet to work on the latest project. Each project is a surprise and incorporates both an embroidery design and a technique. NEEDLE FELTING COURSE – PLAY WITH YOUR FELTING MACHINE Joy Garnett

Not sure what to do with your needle felting machine? The goal of this class is to introduce you to some of the creative possibilities of your machine, using a variety of materials. Following a demonstration of various techniques, students will play with their own needle felting machines, making a sampler using various fabrics, fibres, and yarns. The teacher will provide a wide range of sample pieces showing ideas and techniques as well as a supply of materials to be used for experimenting in class. Gather any yarns and roving, scraps of fabrics that you would like to try needle felting with and come for a fun class. Kit fee to teacher.

Are you intimidated by patterns with zipper closures? Been awhile since you put in a zipper? Learn the ins and outs of inserting zippers in this hands on class. Three zippers will be done in class. Short zippers will be used for easy handling. A zipper will be inserted in a mock jacket front . A boxed pocket opening will be constructed and a zipper closure inserted. An invisible zipper will be inserted to simulate high end ready to wear pants and skirts. After this class zipper insertion will be a breeze.

BIAS BOUND TANK OR TOP Fern MacDonald

A simple, well fitting top is a staple in your closet. Choose a sleeveless tank style or a top with your choice of sleeve. Use a bias strip to replace facings for a streamlined finish. Bias finishes can prevent gaping as well as being interesting by choosing a stripe binding on a plain top or using your machine stitches to make your bias special.
